EIC Accelerator: The Essentials
What is the EIC Accelerator?
The EIC Accelerator is the European Innovation Council's flagship program for deep-tech startups and SMEs. It provides non-dilutive grant funding (up to EUR 2.5M) combined with optional equity investment (up to EUR 15M) through the EIC Fund. The program supports companies with breakthrough innovations that can create significant market impact and European value creation.
Who Can Apply?
You must have a legal entity established in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country. The program is open to startups and SMEs across all deep-tech sectors: climate tech, health tech, digital technologies, advanced materials, energy, mobility, and more. You need a working prototype (TRL 6-7+) and demonstrated market traction or pilot customers.
How Much Funding?
The EIC Accelerator offers up to EUR 2.5M in non-dilutive grant funding. Companies can also opt for blended finance, combining grants with equity investment from the EIC Fund (up to EUR 15M total). Nordic companies that won in 2025 received an average grant of EUR 923,261 -- 21% higher than the EU average.
What is Blended Finance?
Blended finance combines non-dilutive grants with equity investment. This structure maximizes your capital while demonstrating market validation through co-investment. 100% of Nordic 2025 winners chose blended finance because it offers larger grants and shows investor confidence to other capital sources.
